About

Who are we?

We are a nonprofit organisation dedicated to helping people read, understand, and evaluate scientific research. From students to journalists to the public, we provide tools to navigate the complex world of published studies. We value transparency, accessibility and integrity in everything we do. We are entirely funded by you, the public, and our nonprofit model ensures we will never be swayed by shareholders. Our team combines expertise in epidemiology, science communication, and critical appraisal. We break down research papers, showcase both good and flawed practices, and build skills for evidence-based decision making. We don't want to simply be another fact-checking service. We want to build society's capacity for understanding where the facts come from and how they themselves can make well-rounded informed decisions as to whether or not they trust the content they are consuming.

Our vision.

We envision a world where everyone is able to spot strong studies from weak ones, recognise bias and methodological flaws, and make informed decisions based on trustworthy evidence. Science literacy belongs to everyone, not just experts. In a world where it is so easy to get lost in the complexities and sheer volume of published research, we think it is important for everyone to understand where the scientific claims we come across in our day to day lives come from.Every piece of content we create advances this goal — from teaching "how to read a paper" guides to case studies of research done right (and wrong).

What we do.

The work we do broadly falls into the following three categories.1. Critical Research Skills
"How to..." guides: reading scientific papers, spotting methodological flaws, choosing trustworthy sources, understanding study limitations.
2. Good and Bad Research Showcase
Case studies highlighting what strong research design looks like versus common pitfalls — p-hacking, weak controls, conflicts of interest, misleading framing.
3. Misinformation Case Studies
Breakdowns of health claims that impacted public behavior: what the evidence actually showed, how claims spread, source quality analysis, lessons learned.
We do this by collating educational materials that we distribute to the public free of charge, specifically through our social media platforms, where we hope to have the most positive impact on society. We also scan social media for prominent sources of trending instances of health disinformation. We identify the circulating information, research the accuracies and put together materials to highlight the corresponding good and bad practices associated with it.
